Geotagging. I can easily see this being used as part of a presentation. I'm sure it's already widely used in the tourism business, and examples of it are very well used in the realty business. Whether I have a use for it depends entirely on where my degree takes me.

Geocaching was a huge fad a few years back. It sounded like fun, but I didn't have a GPS then.

Thing 15, or: How I went fishing for pods

I've listened to a number of these over the last few years (typically interviews with musicians), and I LOVE the on-demandness of them. That's right, I said on-demandness. See the link below to listen to those who take the language to task in a far more professional manner than I.

Podcast alley seemed to be the most user-friendly directory on a quick run-through. Podcast.com comes in at a close second. EPD hurts my eyes.

Thing 14, the e-nag

Oh please can I add stress to my life with email reminders?*

I know when everything is due except 16 Things, which apparently has no due date. Correct me if I'm wrong. Perhaps I've missed that, but as it was presented as an afterthought...???

As I get into some more involved classes I can see how this might be helpful. I'll be juggling a whole lot of balls that I've never juggled before.

Online Productivity Thing

iGoogle. I chose iGoogle. Why? Because most of my stuff is Google based. That's the only reason...well not quite. I trust Google to do what it says it will do, when it says it will do it.

I'm setting up my iGoogle page with some of my more common areas of visitation.

Online calendar: this may be useful when I'm in more of a position to be online for the bulk of my time. Since I am a WDIMite, this will likely occur. :) There's little use for a computer at all in my present daily job, so I can't apply any of this there. :(

To-do lists: Online? Again, perhaps in the future. Right now, making a list online would be like making a grocery list on paper and leaving it at home. Online lists are not portable with the equipment I have available to me.

Everything else: ask me again in a year.

Naturally, the time I have to explore delicious for this project, the site is down. Super.

This is one I can actually see using for non-private bookmarks. I'm notorious for bookmarking in my browser and I never remember websites.

Anyway, I know what it does and how it works and will be using this one as soon as it's not down. Trust me, I'll get back to you one this one.

Oooh...one more thought. You'll notice that I specifically mentioned 'non-private' bookmarks. Do people actually use this for non-professional bookmarking? If so, how many have lost jobs?

If I ever complete an album's worth of material, that'll be downright nifty. It could happen sooner than I think if my birthday treats me with Ableton. Self-promotion: check.

Online photo sharing poses obvious problems with copyright law, but most of these can be avoided -- if the photographer so chooses -- by the use of a watermark.

I'm new to Flickr, but have used Photobucket for several years and have used it for work and play.
One obvious application would be in the showing of a home for sale. Take the pictures, upload them and give the folder's link to prospective buyers.

Wikilicious Thing

OK, feeling a little less cynical today.

I LOVE wikis, accuracy notwithstanding. I love using them for quick reference, but might not trust them for that Trivial Pursuit answer that I'm stuck on.

Banning a wiki for reference makes sense if 'facts' reported in them are not referenced in a bibliography.


Specific edit: I made a correction in the Wikipedia article on Nivek Ogre/Kevin Ogilvie.

Seriously? There is nothing of worth here other than the ability to further tap into the tabloidism of our society. Didn't I just say that? There are far more worthy things to tackle on the internet than this garbage.

Looks like I got this one done a while ago. So far the excitement has been limited to locating my transcripts.

In other email news, I refuse to use Yahoo! anymore.

Hey! Let's add a bunch of extra crap, but continue to use the same slow, crappy software we've always used!

To be fair, I always much preferred their system of organization over gmail.

RSS Feed Engaged

Not something I find terribly useful at the moment, but I understand the point. At the moment I don't frequent all that many different sites. I have a couple I'm thoroughly addicted to, but this isn't a terribly practical way of reading them -- especially in Google Blue.
